File with a .CUR extension contains an image or animation (a series of colours), depicting a cursor – Windows system indicator. This format is similar to ICO files, with additional information on image relocation in relation to a given point. It enables changing default system cursors.

CUR files can be set in Windows system properties and they can be also a part of themes for system desktop (THEMES). An example of a cursor is an arrow – the original cursor, I-bar – text edition indicator or a cursor with a hand with pointing finger which appears after hovering the indicator over a hyperlink.
