Files with the .ETL extension contain compressed binary log data – data concerning high-frequency messages saved during efficiency tracing sessions of the Windows system core. ETL files are created by the Microsoft Tracelog sotware.
ETL files are created in two stages: first, the logs are buffered in the memory, only after which they are saved on the drive in a compressed binary form. To read them, one must use a command line tool for generating reports, such as Tracerpt, which allows for the generating of information in accordance with the given parameters.
