The extension .JNLP refers to Java web start file. It is a network protocol file which helps a Java based application to be run on any user’s computer from the server. This file is mostly used by technicians.

The structure of the file was made on the principles of client-server architecture and the file is one of the important parts of the network layer stack for application communication. The .JNLP files are currently used by many of the Oracle’s proprietary business solutions as they allow remote application launches and deployment over the network. These files also support API for third part programming.
