MENC is a binary file format that uses encryption to store data from other files. File’s header stores information about the data, and file’s body the actual data in encrypted form. MENC files were typically used on flash devices such as microSD cards.

MENC format was initially used by devices running under mobile verision of Windows system. MENC files could be, however, transferred to a PC using dedicated ActiveSync application. Decrypting a MENC file was only possible on the device (smartphone, PDA, etc.) on which given file was created.
