MPEG2 are files used to store video materials that have been encoded using the MPEG-2 audio and video compression standard. This digital media format was used to distribute it via streaming. It is used mainly in the digital terrestrial television broadcasting standard (DVB-T) and in the transmission of content on the web. Currently, this format is rarely used and is considered obsolete. The successor to MPEG-2 is MPEG-4.
