PVM is a file format used by an operating system virtualization tool called Parallels Desktop. PVM files are used to store information that is a data carrier for a parallel virtual machine, such as a hard disk or floppy disk. These files can also be mounted on the operating system as virtual disks using Parallels Mounter.

Parallels Desktop is emulation software developed for Apple computers. This solution allowed to run more than one operating system simultaneously on a single machine.
