SIGN file extension is associated with a cryptographic program based on OpenPGP implementation specified in RFC 4880. The program allows users to encrypt and digitally SIGN data during communication process.

GNU Privacy Guard uses SIGN files to store encryption keys. OpenPGP is a standard developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and specified in RFC 4880 document.
