SLC file format was developed in 1994 by 3D Systems company. SLC files store 2 1/2D geometric models, that is whose third dimension depends on object’s cross-section. Data needed to procure SLC documents can be acquired directly from CAD objects or CT scans.

SLC files dave data in ASCII text format. SLC file structure consists of three sections: Header Section, Sampling Table Section, and Contour Data Section. Contents of SLC files can be printed using compatible 3D printers.
