UZIP is an extension characteristic of files used by the Unix operating system called FreeBSD. UZIP files are used to store compressed disk images created by a FreeBSD utility called mkuzip. This utility compresses files with the UFS extension in order to reduce their size.

UZIP files are read by geom_uzip , but this requires more computing power than a regular UFS file.
