Files with the .VSD extension contain business diagram project data – visual objects, information flows, text, data about imported sources. These projects can, for example, present process and work diagrams, as well as networks, software, company charts, and database models.

The VSD format is unique to the Visio software, versions 2013 and earlier – in later versions, it has been replaced by the VSDX format. As of now, Visio is part of the Microsoft Office suite, and VSD projects can also be browsed using Microsoft Visio Viewer.
