WEBSITE is a generic shortcut file created by versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser available for older Windows family of operating systems. WEBSITE file stores target WEBSITE URL and (if available) websites’ favicon image.

In order to open a WEBSITE file, user should click the address search icon and drag the mouse to a folder of choice. This feature has been introduced in Internet Explorer 9 released for Windows 7 and 8.
