Files with the XBE extension are characteristic of the system installed in XBOX video game consoles. XBEs are files with which applications (mainly games) are initiated. It is an executable file which the Windows equivalent of EXE files are. XBE files may also be supported by a software for Microsoft Windows called CXBX. It is an XBOX console emulator.

XBE files work only with this version of the console, while XBOX 360 already uses XEX extensions for executable files.
