AMV is an extension specific to files that store video clips. They are most often associated with small Chinese hardware video players called X Micro. Movies in AMV files are compressed and their original resolution is from 96x52 to 160x120 pixels.

AMV files have also been used in other media players. The low resolution of AMV films was dictated by their proper matching to small screens of playback devices.
