ARC is a file extension that was popular when BBS, or Bulletin Board System, was widely used. ARC files were used to archive files and folders. ARC used compression to save disk space.
First BBS services were introduced in the 1970s, and in Poland at the end of 1980 and the beginning of 1990s. ARC format was also used for storing backup copies.
