AVL is the extension given to files associated with the ESRI ArcView GIS geographic information system. It is a high-quality cartographic visualization tool. AVL files are used by this system to store the legend template for maps. They can also contain information about the page layout, default map layer or other cartographic elements.

The ArcGIS software suite is a tool developed by ESRI that works with newer Windows systems, but also as cloud and mobile applications.
