DVI is a file extension that stores data generated on the basis of documents defined using languages for a professional Tex type printing type. Most often they are scientific and technical documents containing complex mathematical formulas.
While files are originally created as simple program code, DVI files are binary files that are created for device drivers that print or display the contents of a document. This is similar to PostScript technology.
