JFS is a system file associated with Linux or Unix kernel. JFS files store journaling data, that is information related to changes made in the system. JFS files are not to be opened using third-party tools.
Files with JFS extension have many various uses. Such files can be used for restoring data in the even of a data corruption due to system failure. They can also be used for buffering changes to the file system. Each Linux or Unix distribution can implement journaling system differently.
