MIF file format is used by MapInfo, a geographical data processing and analysis software. MIF files are used for storing and exchanging data between various GIS (geographic information system) applications.

MIF files contain maps and can sometimes be acccompanied by MID files that contains spatial data. MIF is a text file divided into two sections: file header (holds informations about Mapinfo tables) and data section (holds graphical object definitions).
