RRD file format is used by two GIS applications, namely ArcGIS Desktop and ERDAS IMAGINE. RRD documents are utilized by those applications for speeding up rendering of raster maps, usually while zooming.
RRD files can be generated based on raster data stored in JP2 or TIF files. RRD store partially reduced raster map data to hasten rendering process run by the rendering engine.
