HDMP is a file extension native to Windows operating system. HDMP files store system memory dumps for applications that exited with error. Memory dump feature requires Windows error reporting system to be activated.
MDMP is a compressed version of MDMP file that can be sent to Microsoft for further error analysis. Modern systems are equipped with plenty of RAM and HDMP can be quite large (up to several GB). Unneeded HDMP files can be safely discarded. HDMP files are stored in WINDOWSpchealthERRORREPUserDumps directory.
