What is a IMZ file?
IMZ is an older file format that was used to store FDD disk images. A floppy disk image in IMZ format could be generated compressed or uncompressed. It could also be saved as a self-extracting archive in an EXE file. This format helped with duplicating floppy disks and restoring data after a floppy disk failure.
Most often, IMZ files were associated with a program called WinImage, which allowed the management of such data. This tool was used when floppy disks were a popular portable data carrier.

How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.IMZ) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected IMZ file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the IMZ file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?
Many files contain only simple text data.
