CRCDOWNLOAD extension is used by partially downloaded files generated by Google Chrome web browser. Such files store data successfuly downloaded from the internet by the browser.

Google Chrome adds CRDOWNLOAD extension to the downloaded file temporary – after the files has been downloaded completely the extension is removed and replaced with the file’s original extension. In the event that the file download process wasn’t able to finish, perhaps because on some error, CRDOWNLOAD extension is not removed until the file is downloaded completely.

Recovering downloaded data

CRDOWNLOAD extension can be used for any type of files – text documents, audio files, installers. Some file formats offer recovery of partially downloaded files. To recover such files user must know the original extension the file in question uses which they should add to the file manually. Next, the file must be opened using dedicated software tool.

CRDOWNLOAD file names

CRDOWNLOAD files are named after the original files, for example: file ‘track_title.mp3’ would be named as ‘track_title.mp3.crdownload’.

CRDOWNLOAD files are similar to DOWNLOAD files used by Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari web browsers.
