ODF files are documents created in Apache OpenOffice Math or StarOffice by Sun Microsystems, Inc. ODF files are used to store specific mathematical notations such as formulas, equations, mathematical symbols. The document edited in this way can be embedded in other documents of the Open Office suite.

The ODF format can also be converted to e.g. PDF. Macros can appear in ODF files in addition to mathematical formulas. The generation of ODF files is based on the OASIS standard.
