SHA256 files are used to stores SHA-256 hashes. SHA256 files are generated with FileVerifier++, a software tool for verifying integrity of files, available for Microsoft Windows. Besides SHA-256, FileVerifier++ supports wide range of hashing algorithms.
The latest stable version of FileVerifier was released in 2010 and is compatible with Windows 2000 through 7. The tool is available for free and doesn’t require to be installed on the disk. The tool uses system resources to validate file hashes.
