File with an .UNL extension contains code specific to a given Garmin device, which unlocks maps. It is a backup copy file created by the Garmin Mapsource program, which enables restoring lost maps on the Garmin navigation device.
Codes within UNL files are specific to a given copy of device, therefore, they cannot be used in order to unlock maps on a different device. Storing the codes in the UNL file and its read can be done via device’s Tool menu – Unlock Maps, of the MapSource program.
