Files with the .VBE extension contain encrypted source code for scripts written in a reduced version of the Visual Basic programming language – VBScript. They can be launched by the Windows Script Host program and are unique to the Windows operating system.

Since the contents of the code cannot be read, and the file can only be launched in Windows, if the file comes from an unknown source, caution is advised – VBE files are often used by hackers for writing malware.
