AEC files are used by digital 3D editing software Cinema 4D. AEC file stores a rendered video in a format that can be exported to Adobe After Effects for further editing.

In order for Adobe After Effects to be able to open AEC files, a dedicated plugin must be installed. AEC file format was developed to enable Cinema 4D projects to be rendered with Adobe After Effects.
