File with a .TRP extension contains a video in a high resolution, usually in the H.264 format, and the audio data, usually encoded utilising AC3. Files can be played with many different programs. They have a functionality of error correction – useful while transferring files or during DVB digital video transmission.

TRP files are stored in a transport format compliant with MPEG-2 Part 1, enabling multiplexing flows of digital image and sound, along with the output syncing. Such files are also used with a .TS extension.
